Riyadh Region Municipality detected 70 violations of the Saudi Building Code in Riyadh city by engineering and consulting offices, as well as contractors carrying out construction works. The Municipality took the necessary legal procedures against them after their violations were confirmed, with the aim of enhancing compliance with the technical and regulatory requirements of the Saudi Building Code, improving the quality of construction works, and preserving building safety.
The Municipality explained that the procedures taken included revoking the license of a designing engineering office after it was proven to have violated the requirements of the Saudi Building Code. The measures also included issuing violations against 21 designing consulting offices, 41 supervising consulting offices, and 16 implementation contractors.
The detected violations, according to the classification regulation for Saudi Building Code violations, included failure to submit a soil test study from an accredited office; submitting a soil test containing incorrect information that affects building safety; the supervising engineering office or implementation contractor assigning all or part of their duties to persons not registered with the competent authorities; the engineering office’s failure to submit reports and notifications for construction stages within the specified deadlines; the engineering office submitting supervision reports that contradict the actual situation; and carrying out works that violate the license, approved plans, or technical reports under the Saudi Building Code.
The Municipality continues its monitoring and follow-up activities related to violations of the Saudi Building Code, according to a comprehensive plan that includes detection, correction, and the application of legal penalties. These efforts also aim to strengthen compliance with urban requirements, ensure adherence to the Saudi Building Code, and limit violating practices.
