The Sustainable Development Goals take human responsibility towards environmental problems and risks resulting from development and industry into consideration, and work towards raising awareness of the interdependence of the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development, and targeting responsible management of natural resources in a way that ensures the environment and development needs for us and our grandchildren.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), officially known as Transforming Our World (2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development), constitute a key element of the vision and ambition of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and from this foundation, the Municipality considers its role in sustainable development as part of its pillars to achieve its strategy, and has launched several national development initiatives towards contributing to achieving the goals and facing challenges.
The Riyadh Municipality has adopted its plan aimed at developing its work system and linking it to numerous ambitious targets derived from the Kingdom's Vision 2030 programs. This will contribute to making Riyadh prosperous and sustainable, enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
The Municipality clarified that the development plan will strengthen sustainable urban development and provide high-quality services to residents and visitors. Additionally, it will build effective partnerships with the public and private sectors and the local community, making Riyadh a vibrant city.
It also highlighted that the plan will ensure its transformation into a developed municipality, driving regional development through the enhancement of factors and elements that contribute to making Riyadh one of the leading global urban destinations.
The plan includes a target for regional development to become resilient and sustainable, capable of meeting the needs of all generations, through its role as a key entity driving transformation and ambitious targets. This will be achieved through a vision characterized by excellence in service delivery, improving beneficiary satisfaction, enhancing community participation, and placing citizens at the core of the development process and decision-making.
The Municipality’s plan encompasses many key initiatives, notably spatial planning and real estate development, infrastructure management, humanizing cities, monitoring and compliance, environmental sanitation, community engagement, competency management, institutional performance, an exceptional beneficiary experience, privatization, smart municipalities, and digital transformation.
The plan includes a variety of pillars and goals, foremost among them urban development, creating a vibrant society with improved services and efficient procedures, effective urban planning, increasing compliance levels, stimulating community participation and responsibility, providing advanced and smart infrastructure, innovation and service integration, achieving an exceptional beneficiary experience, improving the urban landscape, developing municipal revenues, launching value-added initiatives, and enhancing spending efficiency and financial planning.
Achieving urban sustainability through spatial alliance with all national and local plans, managing development by taking advantage of competitive urban advantages, and developing policies, controls, and standards.
Improve and ensure coverage of smart infrastructure in line with sustainable urban policies. In addition to enable the efficiency of project planning and construction and improving the quality of operation and maintenance operations in order to achieve urban, environmental, and economic sustainability for the Riyadh region, and up lifting the standard of living, taking in consideration the guiding principles of smart cities.
Developing programs and operational solutions for environmental sanitation to raise the efficiency and effectiveness of cleaning operations by reaching innovative practices around the world that is capable of bringing residential satisfaction in alliance with sustainable and smart city standards. In order of this, Riyadh Municipality aims to work on the development of waste management solutions that guarantees sustainability and applies the tribble waste segregation.
Contribute to raising the percentage of vegetation cover and green areas, designing and implementing many qualitative gardens by working on modern designs commensurate with the social and environmental aspects and the nature of geographical locations, and establishing gardens distributed in the neighborhoods of the city of Riyadh that are accessible and reachable to all.
Improving the efficiency of the control system by adopting an innovative and improved control approach and focusing on proactive control, in addition to setting clear standards and guidelines, ensuring their circulation to citizens/companies, and introducing incentives and fines that will raise the level of compliance in the Riyadh region.
Preparing a guidebook for legislation related to environmental sustainability, increasing transparency, and improving accessibility to these legislations through an online platform.
Developing self-monitoring systems that, in turn, provide the ability for the beneficiaries of the oversight services to apply and self-monitor themselves and know their level of compliance
Re-examine incentives and fines to enhance compliance.
Create periodic campaigns to raise awareness for the community to spread sound environmental knowledge and systems.
Developing a system for monitoring and violating road littering through automated monitoring and through community participation.
Enhance the central laboratories of the Riyadh Municipality to develop the performance of health control over food and public health facilities to ensure their conformity with the Saudi and international standards and governance of the results of laboratory samples on the control procedures according to the approved regulation
Developing procedures to combat pests and epidemic vectors by developing and improving the process of controlling public health pests through the latest experiences and best practices.
Insect control through supplying smart traps and light traps throughout the city.
Mass surveying breeding hotbeds of public health pests and their treatment.
Educating the Riyadh community about the role of the population and the mechanism of communication to prevent foci from forming inside homes.
Developing proactive procedures for stray animals by developing health prevention plans to control the presence of stray animals within the city using modern methods in partnership with the community and the relevant authorities.
Establishing and equipping a center for sheltering and caring for stray animals.
Launching community awareness campaigns to deal with stray animals.
Improving and developing very small businesses (street sellers and mobile carts) with the aim of transferring them to the organized economy and ensuring that support is provided for their business to reduce potential issues of compliance with regulations and quality standards in the business
Increasing the number of incubators and sales sites.
Empowering the private and non-profit sectors to provide services.
Achieving digital empowerment in basic service areas and service delivery channels, in order to benefit from innovative technology tools that raise the level of quality and efficiency of services and allow beneficiaries to request services and obtain data and information in a transparent and clear manner (such as automation, the Internet of things, artificial intelligence, etc.) in addition to activating digital channels to monitor the opinions of beneficiaries.
Enhancing innovation through many targeted initiatives, which in turn contribute to receiving ideas, finding solutions to challenges, enabling the public, both individuals and entities, to innovate in the municipal sector, and working on planning and implementing innovative events and activities. Such as developing a business space in the city to contain and implement municipal ideas and experiments in a special environment under observation, presenting prizes for innovation, forming an advisory council to study events related to the region, providing advice, and contributing to supporting and developing initiatives and proposing appropriate solutions to address the most prominent issues
Supporting Those in Need to Overcome Poverty ,Riyadh Municipality provides a service for donating one-third of the sacrificial animal through its electronic services portal, making it easier for citizens and residents to contribute a portion of their sacrifice to those in need. This service aims to promote social solidarity and ensure that sacrificial donations reach their rightful beneficiaries in an organized and convenient manner, in accordance with approved religious and health regulations.
