Riyadh Region Municipality, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, has launched the “One-Third of the Sacrifice” initiative in partnership with charitable associations. The initiative aims to facilitate the delivery of part of sacrificial animals to families in need during Eid Al-Adha, within an integrated work system that strengthens the community role and enhances the efficiency of delivering food support to beneficiary groups.
The initiative allows residents of Riyadh city and the wider Riyadh Region to donate one-third of their sacrificial animals through organized operational channels, including approved slaughterhouses and the premises of participating associations. This ensures that the meat is received, sorted, packaged, transported using refrigerated vehicles, and delivered to eligible families according to organized and safe procedures, contributing to improving the efficiency of charitable work and accelerating access to beneficiaries.
In its current edition, the initiative includes wide participation from 80 non-profit organizations and around 38 slaughterhouses across the Riyadh Region, including seven slaughterhouses within Riyadh city, in addition to the involvement of 1,500 volunteers. This reflects the expansion of community work and the increase of its direct impact on beneficiaries.
The initiative relies on an integrated operational model that begins with registering donors and selecting the donation entity through the electronic application. It then proceeds with receiving sacrificial animals at slaughterhouses or association sites, followed by sorting, refrigeration, and packaging processes, and ends with direct distribution to eligible families. Confirmation and appreciation messages are also sent to donors and beneficiaries, enhancing the reliability of the experience and raising the level of organization in implementing the initiative.
The initiative contributes to empowering the non-profit sector by expanding its participation in community initiatives, increasing its operational readiness, and strengthening its presence in municipal work. It also reinforces the values of social solidarity and deepens ties among members of society through a model that promotes partnership between government entities, non-profit organizations, and volunteers.
This initiative comes as part of Riyadh Region Municipality’s efforts to promote community-value initiatives, increase community participation, and provide quality services that contribute to improving quality of life. It is in line with the Municipality’s vision to be a leading municipality for a prosperous and sustainable Riyadh that enhances quality of life, and with its mission to advance Riyadh by promoting sustainable urban development, providing high-quality services, and building effective partnerships toward a vibrant society.
