Riyadh Municipality has closed 231 violating establishments and destroyed 7.3 tons of unfit food products, as part of its ongoing inspection campaigns conducted in collaboration with security forces and various government agencies. These efforts targeted the Manfouha district, a densely populated area with high commercial activity.

The campaign led to the issuance of 1,126 notices and violations, the disconnection of electricity from 11 sites, and the seizure of 140 mobile carts and street vendors. Authorities also confiscated, impounded, and destroyed 32,885 products deemed unfit for use, including 501 kilograms of tobacco products. Additionally, 448 violations were referred to other relevant authorities.

This campaign was launched in response to multiple observations and complaints received through the "Madinty" mobile application, which reported violations affecting food safety and product quality. These included irregularities in food establishments, meat shops, cafés, street vendors, and private homes that had been converted into unauthorized food storage facilities, as well as tobacco-selling locations.

During their ongoing field inspections, regulatory teams uncovered a number of serious and high-risk violations. These included the sale of tobacco products from unknown sources, the discovery of spoiled food items intended for consumers, expired personal care products, poor hygiene practices, unsafe methods of food storage that could lead to contamination, the use of residential homes as food warehouses, the sale of spoiled meat, and the display of counterfeit tobacco products in locations that repeatedly violated regulations. Other infractions were related to licensing and municipal requirements.

The Municipality responded with firm measures to address these violations, which included issuing warnings, documenting offenses, imposing fines, and shutting down facilities that posed a direct threat to public health. These actions aim to protect consumers and prevent the recurrence of such practices.

This campaign is part of a proactive and continuous inspection plan that includes both daily and periodic patrols of neighborhoods and commercial zones. Authorities also follow up with violating establishments after the campaigns to ensure that corrective actions are taken. Advanced digital systems are being used to accurately document and track violations, enabling swift response and effective enforcement.

The Municipality highlighted the availability of easy-to-use reporting channels through the “Madinty” app, which allows users to submit complaints with geolocation and images. Field teams act on these reports immediately. The Municipality emphasized that citizen and resident cooperation plays a key role in the success of these efforts, reflecting a strong partnership between the Municipality and the community to maintain a safe urban environment, ensure high service quality, and achieve sustainable urban development goals, in line with the Municipality’s mission to enhance quality of life in the capital.
